The 1980 Coca-Cola/ Sure Craft North Shore Bodyboard Classic is historically significant for two reasons. First and foremost, it is the first professional bodyboard contest held at Pipeline. Secondly, it is the first bodyboard contest to document an el rollo, performed by Pat Caldwell, being used as a maneuver in competition.
