LILLY POLLARD INJURY UPDATE

NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA-  On March 29th, 5x Australasian pro tour Champion and 2014 Pipeline Women's Champion Lilly Pollard posted the following update to her Facebook Athlete Page:

"Hey everyone!  Just wanted to send out a super massive thanks for all the kind words of support from everyone.  For those who don't know the story...Recently, on Tuesday, 25th March 2014, I went for a surf at Mystics.  The conditions were a bit rough and dirty, and it was only around 3ft. but super low tide.  On that fateful wave I simply took off on a closeout barrel which decided to toss me head first into the sandbar.  Thankfully I wasn't surfing alone this day, and I had some wonderful friends with me who carefully carried me to shore.  I spent four days in hospital and am currently sitting at home resting up, counting my lucky stars, and waiting for my bones to heal.  I have sustained a series of fractures all down my neck and back, most significantly in my C5, and T1 to T4.  I feel so incredibly lucky that I wasn't knocked out when it happened and that my spinal cord has not been damaged.  The specialist believes it could take three months for my neck to heal, but I know everybody is different and that if I do things right, I can be back in the water sooner.  I have accepted my fate, but of course I'm going to be working hard to get better as soon as possible.  Special thanks to Russ, Adam, and Detland on the beach, the fire and ambulance crews, Karla from the rescue helicopter, Angela from Emergency and all the nurses who helped keep me comfortable in hospital, and of course Summah for taking great care of me.  I can't wait to get back in the water again!"

Here's wishing you the best, Lilly!  Rest up, heal up, and hope to see you back in the water charging again soon!
